Future of apps II: Smart TV’s

We cannot deny it anymore. Apps are everywhere, even on the latest smart TV’s! Today, on almost every smart TV platform you can install apps. For example, apps to check weather reports, to read the news or watch a movie. Some brands like Philips, Samsung and Sharp present a standard number of local apps on their smart TV platform. These are remarkable developments, but are TV apps the future?

Owner and director August de Vocht of Gemoro Mobile Marketing in Tilburg confirms this. "There will be a great future for apps on television.”

De Vocht began the company Gemoro Mobile Marketing in 2006, which was specialized in Bluetooth marketing. "Companies were able to use Bluetooth marketing on events. Everyone who passes by received a message on his self-phone." This was just the beginning. From that moment on, the company also focuses on SMS, MMS and voicemail marketing. In 2010 the question of a large milk brand came to build an app. "Only from that moment on we started to focus on building applications. Meanwhile I have ten people employed; eight in Tilburg and two in Romania."

According to De Vocht developments will follow in quick succession. Besides television, there will soon be apps in cars. "In the future, the Tom Tom is no longer needed, because a navigation app will replace it. Or the kilometre administration that expires automatically with an application.” According to him, this is just the beginning. These developments will expand and allow apps to be more specific.

  1. Apex Weather is a new weather app from the developers of Apex Launcher, one of the best Android launchers. This weather app is above average. You get your basic stuff like the current, daily, and hourly forecasts. It also includes a weather map, severe weather alerts, and some of the better clock and weather widgets we've seen in a while. It even shows less common stuff like sunrise and sunset times, air pressure, UV index, and more. You can get weather forecasts in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia along with a rather bland news blog if you want one. The ads can be a tad annoying, but otherwise this weather app checks all of the boxes. You can also remove the ads with a single $5.99 payment.
